The Piranha model PSA-10 dredge was developed to satisfy the need for a compact, highly portable, easy to operate, modestly priced dredge. It utilizes our submersible agitator slurry pump model PS-1000-A , which has been popular for years in coal fired power plants and under ground mines for cleaning out sumps and vaults that are heavily laden with sediment. It is also available with our model PS-1000 solids handling pump with 2" solids handling capabilities. It is particularly effective in maintaining areas where unwanted sediment accumulates that are not large enough in scope to justify full sized dredges or expensive contract dredging. It is intended to provide a means to excavate sediment that is not densely compacted such as: mine tailings, fly ash, mud, sand, sewage, & water treatment sludges that are concentrated in limited areas. The primary purpose of the mechanical agitator is to apply kinetic energy (energy of motion) to the sediment changing it from a solid to a liquid state. The agitator on this pump is located just below the pump inlet. This strategic location also allows it to macerate and clear away debris from the inlet before it has a chance to accumulate. The pump inlet opening is a donut shape 3/4 inch wide by 2 3/4 inch diameter. This this allows some debris and rocks to pass through the pump. The impeller is a vortex design which creates a flow through the pump case while most of the fluid does not actually contact the impeller. This feature also dramatically diminishes impeller wear. |
